What's Nissan Safety Shield?

Nissan Safety Shield® 360 is a collection of safety systems that work to help keep you alerted and protected on the open road. Included in this technology suite are the following:

• Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection: Warns when you're too close to frontal obstacles and applies the brakes to help avoid a collision.
• Rear Automatic Braking: Alerts to detected rear obstacles, and brings you to a stop if needed to prevent impact.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert: Warns of approaching vehicles when in reverse, so you can be on your way safely.
• Lane Departure Warning: Detects and warns you of unintentional lane sway to keep you firmly on track.  
• High Beam Assist: Uses high beams for a greater view of the road ahead at night. If another vehicle approaches, it automatically toggles down to low beams.

Added Protection Features

Nissan doesn't stop there, though. Many of their vehicles are also available with extra safety features such as the following:

ProPILOT Assist

Maintains a set following speed and distance between your car and the vehicle ahead. As traffic slows and stops, so will your Nissan for a more relaxing and simplified drive. The most unique aspect of this feature is that it also works to keep you centered in your lane around every twist and turn in the road.

Opt for ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link on vehicles like the Rogue for even more convenience. It uses highway mapping to detect approaching exit ramps, and then slows your vehicle to ready you for a safe exit. It'll also read the road for speed limit signs and adjust your traveling speed as needed.

Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention

If you try to change lanes with another vehicle in your blind zone, this system will apply the brakes and then gently guide you back into your lane.

Intelligent Around View® Monitor

Using cameras placed all around the exterior of your Nissan, you'll be provided with an overhead view of any nearby obstacles to make backing in and out of tight spaces as seamless as possible.

Safety Shield vs the Competition

When it comes to the competition, many other manufacturers offer comparable safety systems, such as Toyota Safety Sense™ and Honda Sensing®. However, these safety collections don't have all the same technologies such as Rear Automatic Braking. Additionally, Blind Spot Warning is typically an add-on system.

Nissan Safety Shield® 360 is also a standard amenity on many Nissan models such as the Altima and the Murano. Looking at rides like the Chevy Malibu and Jeep Cherokee, you'll find similar technology, but you'll need to upgrade to a higher trim level to make them available.
